I beat the sunset tonight by getting in four miles (one less than planned) and this was the first run I did since the marathon 17 days ago. I hit the exact pace I was supposed to -- 10:32 average for all four. The surprising thing was how HARD it was. Considering I thought of four miles as a warm up about a month ago, and that the assigned pace was slower than my average, it was surprising to me how much I struggled tonight.
But I suppose my body is still recovering from the race, so I need to devote serious time to foam rolling tomorrow. My hips especially feel weak. Does anyone have great strengthening or loosening moves for the hips?
Look how pretty our homemade vanilla extracts turned out! We are delivering them to our partners at work this week. I love giving gifts so much. I always imagined one of the best jobs would be delivering gift baskets to people because they'd just be so happy to see you.
Sometimes the breakfast stars align and I somehow get the very first scoop of freshly scrambled eggs and the very first selection from the pancake platter. I knew the second the pancake hit my lips that I was re-committing to the post-work run tonight!
One of my teammates got me this adorable pencil/makeup/stuff bag. I think it's the perfect excuse to downsize my old Walgreens makeup bag into this tiny clutch that I can toss in my backpack.
Oh boy! Snoopy made an appearance in San Francisco! Runs are pretty fun right now with all the holiday lights and decorations outside.
Jon offered to take Croc to a park while The Dude had tennis lessons. I figured while they were out and about, I'd send them on a mission. My mom is a big outdoor lover and her favorite spot in the city is the Presidio. She especially loves the smells (agree!!). Like me, we think there are healing powers in the trees and breezes there. :)
About a year ago, the kids made her a cute little box filled with acorn caps from the Presidio. The Dude painted a little sign that said "open this and then smell" and when she opened it you could smell the trees right away. She said she opens it every once in awhile but that its scent has worn off quite a bit.
So we thought of sending her a new box with her Christmas gifts this year. Croc was in charge of selecting acorns, pinecones, etc to fill the box. Jon said the park service had just cut down a bunch of trees so there were a ton of wood chips on the ground.
I think he got a little sidetracked on the 'ole wood chip pile!
He had already painted this new box and then we filled it with some of his findings.
And now it's on its way to her! Homemade gifts are the B-E-S-T!!
I wrapped so many gifts that my back is killing me! I'm going to cat cow myself on a yoga mat in front of a really cheesy holiday movie. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say the holidays are the one time of year when movies are acceptably bad. The cheesier the better! My new favorite is this one called A Snow Capped Christmas (but oddly titled Falling for Christmas on the poster).
Is it snowing where you live? Tell me all about it! I miss snow.
Do you have any tips for opening up my hips or getting into the hip for some good stretches?
