Last night I went to my company's holiday party with my friend while Jon stayed at home with the boys. I planned to wear a lovely red lace dress but it was torn at the hem and I didn't have time (or qualifications) to fix. it. So I re-wore my party dress from the night before!
I'm pretty sure this was happening all across the country but Santa Con was a big deal yesterday in the city. Lots and lots and lots of questionable Santa behavior happening in San Francisco this weekend :)
While Santas were swilling and stumbling, we took the kiddos to the Embarcadero to shop for Christmas gifts. We entered the mall from a different way and had a pretty view of the Transamerica building. It's one of the buildings that defines the SF skyline!
The kids think of escalators as play time, and Crocodile uses them as another opportunity to potentially hurt himself.
It was pretty cute that The Dude kept asking me when we were going to shop for Christmas gifts. I had promised them twenty bucks each to spend on the other one, and kids never forget a promise. We picked a lovely day to go downtown.
Drive through Chinatown if you're ever in this city. Look around at all the colors and murals and shops. It's like being in another country -- another reason to love SF.
I said I thought this fountain looked like a dandelion after it's dried up and is ready for someone to make a wish and blow on it!
We got some of our shopping done and I gave the kids some Silly Putty to play with in the car on the ride home. I find good old classic Silly Putty is much better for getting out of carpet versus Cloud Clay or Playdough or slime.
This is Jon's motivation: Kurt Osiander telling him to go train! Kurt is a little scary but very nice in a scary kind of way :)
This house always has the best decorations for any holiday at any time of year. I love it when people go out of their way to decorate for other people's enjoyment!
After the farmer's market this morning, Jon took the kids to get an ice cream so I could make a nice Sunday dinner. We had meatloaf (not me, the others), baked potato, pears, and some other snacks. It was the perfect chilly evening meal.
The Dude said to me, "mom you went out TWO nights in a row! Are you going to go out again TONIGHT?" I said no way because I enjoy my pajama pants way too much to stuff myself into a dress for a third night in a row :)
The party was really fun, mostly because I got to catch up with some women who are the life of any party. They have more style, brains, and humor between them than the entire party. I have a very high level of respect for the women with which I'm blessed to surround myself.
It was a boozer's dream at this party! They had open bars everywhere and since it was a New Orleans themed party, inhibitions were sort of left at the door. There will be some serious loss of eye contact at the office tomorrow - hahaha!!
It's moments like this one when I want to make life in slow motion. A cool but clear night, a brass band playing, and the lights of City Hall in the background. I'm sure lucky to get to experience things like this.
It's a fuzzy picture because I was carrying so many things while taking it, but the first thing we saw when we walked in was this stand of cotton candy. The flavors were on another level: strawberry shortcake, cookies & cream, mocha.
My lovely date for the night!!
They had a big display of complimentary masks for everyone to sift through after you checked in with security. We're all looking at different cameras because I think we all handed our cell phones to the camera person!
I had a small bowl of vegetarian gumbo and some shrimp and okra, watched our CEO give a speech (which gave me a renewed sense of excitement over our mission), and then I did the most amazing Irish goodbye of my life. I love ducking out when everyone is busy talking. For some reason saying goodbye has never been my thing. I'd rather say see ya and think of it like a pause button until the next time!
I'm excited to get on my black beauty tomorrow and ride to work. I feel like it's been ages since I've done this, so I hope I don't pull any noob moves while riding! It's been known to happen...
Did you have any holiday parties this year? I'd like every detail! :)
Was meatloaf one of your meal staples growing up like me?
