Yesterday we broke the all time world record for hottest day recorded in San Francisco at 106 degrees!! And today was another 100+ day. Let me tell you I am an Ohio girl at heart but, after 16 years of living here, it's safe to say my blood is all San Francisco now. And I cannot take this heat.
The Dude has been feeling sick so today Jon took Croc to the beach while I rested at home with the tired one. I can't get over the weather in San Francisco right now. I have never ever felt it this hot in this city - unbearably hot! Keep in mind this is SF and very few homes have air conditioning in them because you'd only use them like 5% of the year. I'm thinking of pretending my oven is broken so I can go downstairs to our neighbor's flat and sit in their A/C. Serious air temp jealousy.
They saw dolphins at Baker Beach! You can see the dorsal fin above.
Our flat felt like 120 degrees inside. There was no way of sitting, standing, adjusting fans, or shutting curtains that made us feel any more comfortable. I pretended I was with Jon and Croc by putting waves on the TV, a fan on my face, and a block of ice on my feet. It cooled me off for about 10 minutes.
When they got home, Jon could immediately see how hot and cranky I was so he told me to get out of the house where it's much cooler. I grabbed my sheet, a snack, and my phone and walked out to the park near our house. The second I was in the grass, I felt cooler and calmer. The number one piece of advice I have for people who find themselves getting cranky is to get outside. Yes I brought a Spiderman sheet. It was actually my brother's when he was little and my mom saved them and sent them to me when she found out I was having a boy.
And my new favorite protein snack is this Perfect Bar that I got at Whole Foods. It has little chocolate chips in it too.
This song, Jungle Drum by Emilíana Torrini, popped up while I was laying there and it got me excited for my long run tomorrow. I'm going to have to wake up at the crack of dawn to run before it gets really hot out!
I subscribed Croc to Koala Crate one night when I had a big case of guilt over hardly ever doing crafts with him compared to The Dude. Jon helped him assemble it. I love it because they include all the pieces you need to put it together! He couldn't wait to play me a song when I walked in.
I was flipping through old texts with Jon and started laughing. We keep it pretty sarcastic in this marriage which is part of why it's lasted so long!
Last night we had some our best friends in the world over for dinner. We've been through everything together. They are every bit like family to me, and supported me when I was going through getting sober. I love them for many reasons but one is because I can invite them over when my house is a wreck, no food in my fridge, and end up having the best time. And Heidi didn't even judge me when I had no clean cups for her cocktail and she had to drink out of a Cuisinart measuring cup!
We took the kids to the park to cool off and then ordered Burma Superstar for dinner. We ate it from camping chairs in the backyard while the kids stayed upstairs watching Moana. We talked for hours and it was finally cool enough to sit comfortably. These are the best kinds of nights.
I saw this shirt in the window of one of my favorite shops and it is completely accurate! There's nothing worse than posting an entry on my blog and then re-reading it later only to find a grammar mistake. Quelle horreur! (Please note: I don't think anyone can get away with throwing random french phrases into every day speak unless you are actually living in France.)
What are the temperatures like where you live?
Do you exercise in extreme heat?
