We have arrived and women only weekend has officially begun! This house is so beautiful. After the long and twisty road to get here, I don't plan on leaving this place until Sunday!
I was the first one to arrive so I got to explore the rooms before we cover them all with luggage. It felt like being a kid in a candy store.
The internet connection here is really slow so this weekend the posts will be short and sweet. I have to say being forced to disconnect isn't a bad thing. No TVs. No radios (except our phones). No cell service for most of us!
The guest book says there are scorpions on the property and they've also had a rattlesnake sighting. I won't be lifting up any logs this trip, that's for sure, and I'm going to be looking down a lot during my runs to make sure I don't step on anything.
Before I left San Francisco, I took a moment to enjoy sitting in the Zipcar. No car seats equals no crumbs and no dirty cleats and toys in the back. Nice for a few days but not a luxury I'd want long-term... I miss those crumb-covered boys already!
The next one to arrive was Heidi! We laughed that we both bought nearly the same groceries. We have enough hummus and sourdough to last us weeks.
We immediately got in comfy clothes and started a fire which went out about five minutes later. Then we made some drinks (orange juice and water for me) and talked for four hours straight. She gets me and sometimes I feel like we're living parallel lives in different homes. She's a teacher and I was asking her to tell me about all the things she's teaching her sixth graders right now. I have a lot of respect for her -- how she dedicates so much to her students while raising an amazing family of her own is beyond me. Plus she does it with a sense of humor. We get pretty raunchy when we're together and there are zero filters in place!
Next came Molly and Tara! We thought they'd gotten lost (which they had for a bit) because the GPS doesn't work up here but they finally found the house! We immediate got them drinks and stood in the kitchen talking for another hour -- why always congregating in the kitchen at parties? Oh yeah, the food!
I lasted to 2am which is like worlds later than I usually do. More women arrive tomorrow! I'm so excited to taste a bunch of different food. We all signed up to cook a meal. I'm on dessert for tomorrow night. I'm also pumped to try out a new pair of running shorts tomorrow and Molly even offered to give us a training! She does this for a living in addition to another full time job... oh and she raises four kids with her husband. Yeah - these ladies make it look easy!
