I gave myself the day off today to prepare for the BIG DAY tomorrow of running around Donner Lake twice!
I found this old photo of my brother and me in high school. My friend said I look like June Carter Cash. I think more like a Dallas housewife in training!
The fridge wasn't getting cold enough in our rental so a bunch of our food spoiled. I'm kind of a food safety stickler and tossed more than I probably should have but the upside was that we used it as an excuse to eat at our favorite Lake Tahoe restaurant -- Sunnyside! It's right on the lake and we always eat on the deck. Visit any weekend day of the summer and it's wall-to-wall yupsters enjoying (multiple) bloody marys. We got lucky that many schools are already back in session so we only had a 15-minute wait which is a little unheard of...
Everything on the menu is so good but their kids menu could use some work. Why do restaurants think bland foods are the only thing kids want to eat? I mean if my kids are going to leave something untouched on their plates I at least want to be able to eat it myself!
I digress. Jon got the fish tacos and I got the sesame crusted salmon bowl which they cooked perfectly and wasn't dry at all. The kids wasted* chicken tenders, fries, and quesadillas.
*when I say wasted that means we take it home in a box and repurpose it either in our own bellies or as a "late night snack" for the kids. Pro tip: leftover french fries taste great chopped up and thrown in an egg scramble the next day!
Our topic of conversation: what the kids should be for Halloween. This is a big deal in our fam bam.
When we got home I propped my feet up on Jon's lap (my not-so-subtle hint to rub my feet) and just as he was reaching for them I saw a hint of a grimace. Yeah. My feet needed some work, so I told him I was going to cash in the gift card he got me earlier in the week!
I wasn't sure what to expect but this was truly the star treatment. I went to Linda's Nails in Truckee where they started me off with a bottle of water (hydration - check!) and a mani / pedi. The pedi included a hot stone massage, mud treatment, salt scrub, and (my favorite) a paraffin wax dip for my feet. I've never had it done before so I was a little unsure at first but as soon as he dipped my feet in, I was a fan.
I also caught up on lots of celebrity gossip which is a requirement for getting nails done. The final product was amazing. Thanks Jon!
And look at this little crocodile I caught today!!
During lunch one of us used a line from a movie to articulate how we were feeling at that moment. We do this A LOT in our marriage because a.) we both love movies, and b.) you gotta keep things lighthearted when you're coparenting.
I'll share with you our top lines we use at home:
What are your favorite movie lines?
Tell me the craziest spa treatment you've ever had done.
