It was 75 degrees in San Francisco today!!!!!! On February 4th!! Look at all that sun streaming in... it was lovely.
My running has been sort of painful lately - ever since the marathon in fact - and it's due to my hamstring. I've tried a bunch of things like rest (sort of - I've cut way back on cardio), icing, foam rolling, lacrosse ball rolling, epsom salt baths, heat. Nothing seems to be fixing it or maybe it's just too soon to tell.
The Rock N Roll Half Marathon is coming up soon and I want to be healthy for it. They just released the course map and, oh Nelly!, there are some hills. Looks like 947 feet of elevation gain so I'm antsy to get in some hill practice! But my hamstring just can't handle those right now. I'm going to make an appointment with a physical therapist to see if there's anything more going on (fingers crossed a few sessions will help).
I thought booking a deep tissue massage would work out some of the tightness. The spa's light fixtures are so fancy.
I still had some bandages on me from my fall at China Camp Challenge so the masseuse was pretty timid with the pressure. I'm sure she just didn't want to mess with my injuries but I was dying for some tough love on my hamstring :)
And this is my massage face, imprints and all!
On Friday night, we let The Dude have a couple of friends sleep over. Remember our flat is pretty darn small for six people so I told Jon that I'd take them to a movie. Jumanji remake won out! I have to say it was pretty good as far as kid's movies go. It was also PG-13 which I didn't realize because Jon had already taken him to see it once. Jon's rules are much more loosey goosey than mine :)
Ever been in a Lyft with three boys under nine? I gave the drive an extra big tip. Well earned.
While I was riding downtown with the wonder trio, Jon took crocodile to Fishermans Wharf which is so aggressive to me. I'm not a big fan of that place but I know Croc has fun there. Thanks daddy!
Musee Mechanique! A ferris wheel made out of toothpicks.
When we got back from the movie, I fell asleep early. Those boys wear me out! The next morning, I heard the boys up and moving around awfully early. I thought it was strange that they'd be awake so early when I assumed they went to bed late. Later on, The Dude confessed they never actually fell asleep. Yeah. An all nighter. At age eight. I'm pretty sure I tried pulling all nighters in grade school and never made it all the way through.
Needless to say, they were absolute messes the next day. Jon fed them, took them to the park for fresh air, and then drove them all home.
Let's just say 50 percent of the occupants of the car fell asleep on the way home. :) Jon had to actually carry one of the boys to his front door, fast asleep. This is why sleepovers are ALWAYS better on Fridays. They need time to recover.
Enjoy this photo because it's the last one you'll see of him for the rest of the post because once they got home he SLEPT FOR SEVENTEEN HOURS STRAIGHT WITHOUT WAKING UP!!! Jon checked on him a few times but we just let him go. He fights sleep so much of his life, we were happy to see his body give in. Such a tired guy! Total party animal.
One of my favorite side effects of being a parent is seeing little stuff like this in random places. It makes me smile and wonder what the story is behind it. I feel very blessed when I see little tokens of the kids' adventures.
We flipped this Iron Man mask up and down a couple hundred dozen times to make sure it was as cool every time. It was. :)
While The Dude slept (and slept, and slept, and...), Jon drove Croc to the beach. Look at this photo. Beautiful.
I guess they saw all KINDS of really cool things at the beach because the tide was low. Hello crabby!
Sometimes this city is too much. I'll forgive you for your high prices if you keep giving us evenings like this, SF.
What is this creature, does anyone know? I had serious FOMO seeing these pictures in our photo feed! But I'm so glad The Dude got to rest in peace and quiet.
Jon said he refused to leave this one area where there was a big puddle. He kicked and played for over an hour.
And got so cold that daddy gave up his cozy sweatshirt to warm him up!! He's ready for a booster seat, this kid.
Does anyone else put peels in the disposal instead of the compost when you eat an orange or any other citrus fruit? I do it to freshen it up. Makes it smell good for a hot minute.
Confession: I completely forgot it was the Superbowl today until Jon looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested a family trip to the farmers market right before kickoff :)
I dug through the freezer and came up with TJ's frozen chicken tacos and Amy's frozen pizza poppers. To counterbalance the frozen fried foods, I threw in some carrots, pears, avocado (I won't call it guac b/c I had no lime), and apples. The boys attacked it.
Well, one boy attacked it in particular. The other one opted for cereal. I think his body clock was off from all the sleep :)
Okay, I'm going to use the question section of the post for a self-serving reason: Anyone have good tips on how to fix a hurt hamstring? It's like a dull ache on the upper part.
Did you watch the Superbowl? Thoughts on the halftime show? I gotta say - love him or hate him - Justin Timberlake puts on a good show!
