This week has been completely nuts. It seems like all kinds of big projects are coming to a head at work and I'm hustling to tie up loose ends before our vacation. The males in the house are already done with work, school, and summer camp so they have transitioned into party pants mode. I can't wait to get there.
I have been squeezing in runs or yoga wherever I can and splurged on a Lyft to the gym this week to get a tempo run in before work. It certainly doesn't take many miles to get my face bright red.
Before ------------------------->>>>>>>>>>> AFTER!
People at the gym must think I'm nuts when I take pictures like the one above. I am still trying to get over this selfie taking thing. I picked up The Dude from camp and I was really excited to hear about his day because this week's theme is Triathlon! (I'm still a little wounded from re-telling my own shark circling experience!)
Yesterday was his run day and he said his feet really hurt from it so he soaked them in a bath of ice cube-filled water. He is such a grinder, this kid. I love how he tries new things, something that's really important to me. I can't wait for the day when he asks to go for a run with me -- I hope it's something that appeals to him! He's a big talker (like me) so I think I could lure him into a run with some good conversations.
On the way home in the Lyft he said, "Mom I think I have a little time to read before the cab gets to our house." Seriously proud mom moment. He's reading this book called Wonder (which I hear is being made into a movie -- I love reading the book first). It has a really powerful message. I highly recommend it for kids or adults.
On the way to catch the cab home together, the app suggested we mosey on over to a "more convenient location" which was not really convenient at all because we had to jump down a tall wall to get to the meeting place. I went first so I could help The Dude down. We probably should have reversed those roles because I jumped hard and landed hard - it was not my most graceful moment...even the cabbie was laughing -- at me? with me? who knows). We were moving so quickly to hop in the car that I didn't notice I had come down extra hard on my left foot and I think I may have landed on a rock. I had a lot of pain in it and here I am one day later with a bruise! It was a noobtastic shit show from start to finish.
Now in your head you're probably imagining a wall something of the magnitude of this size (given my extreme fitness level and youthful agility -- please remember my love of sarcasm here).
But, sadly, the wall was this. This not-even-6-foot wall that might as well have been 20. I went home and iced my foot but I'm going to take a day off. Wish I had a cooler story about why!
Croc is absolutely rocking the fashion this week. If only I could bottle up his hair color and sell it on the free market. Both of my boys have gorgeous locks!!
I'm about to let you in on some very good insider tip love on where to get some tasty, super cheap dim sum in the city. Good Luck Dim Sum is a true gem. But be prepared for lines at certain times of day and don't forget to take cash! Pro tip: they are closed on Tuesdays.
Also if you're a little intimidated by the fast pace of the counter, grab a slip of pink paper from the counter and circle the orders you want or write the number of each item you want next to the description. Then hand it over! I love this place. We've been coming here for 15 years!
I keep thinking of the line in Mr. Mom when Michael Keaton says, "My brain is like oatmeal." I feel this way right now. I am overdue to completely shut down from work and spend time with my family unwinding, reading, and eating healthy food. Get ready for a lot of food and running photos from the mountains!!
Tell me your favorite movie from the '80s.
How do you decompress at the end of the day?
