Yesterday I could blame it on the heat, but today I had no excuse for waking up VERY cranky. I've learned to own up to it when I feel this way, but I also know it's not fair to my family when I sit around cranky and complaining. So I run!
Fifteen miles along Ocean Beach and through Golden Gate Park. Let me tell you what I saw along my way...
BUFFALO!! Yes there is a paddock right in the middle of Golden Gate Park! I love how the Park describes them on their website:
Overall, don’t expect a grand show of movement and daring feats when visiting the bison. They tend to keep to themselves and really don’t engage in any exciting activities. They appear in the standing position for most of the day and sometimes sit about. If you are lucky, one of the bison may slowly travel from the field to the corral.
Riveting, I know! :) Actually it is very cool running past these amazing beasts. When the Park was created, they wanted to honor the Wild West so they brought in the first buffalo in 1891, and then many more over the years. They used to breed them in the Park but that doesn't happen anymore. Interestingly, all the bison are FEMALES! The Park Service says the males tend to be more aggressive (I'll leave my jokes on life imitating animals out of this - ha!).
Did you know they can run more than 30 mph, jump up to 6 feet high, and swim almost a mile? You learned it here folks!
I felt like I was running much faster than I actually was and I can guess what I did wrong to make my pace slow to a crawl (11:00 pace!):
Do you ever want a re-do after a run? I'd like one of those please. But hey I got out there! I could have stayed in jammies and watched Fixer Upper all day while the fog rolled in (the PERFECT tv/movie watching weather). But I didn't. I ran 15 miles!
Drumroll please... WE HAVE MORE PETS!! I knew this would happen. We had the small tank with two crabs. But one died so both Jon and I started feeling guilt over the living conditions so I shoved the boys in shoes and we headed to the pet store!
We got a bigger tank, some small rocks for the bottom, a heater, and a living plant. (Don't worry the water only looked like that for a few minutes.) Of course I also got suckered into buying two more crabs. So now we have THREE! One is a fiddler crab and the others are tiny red claw crabs. Names are:
Clearly I didn't name these creatures. A water pump is also on the way from Amazon and the running joke between Jon and me is that we've now spent well over $150 on three $2.99 crabs. I love pets and it shows. I hope I don't dive into a pet spiral... there is serious danger of me coming home one day with hamsters, newts, and a puppy (pets from my youth!).
I was so hungry and Jon brought me in this platter snack. It was the TJ's version of Ritz Crackers done four ways: 1.) peanut butter and jelly, 2.) peanut butter and blueberries, 3.) a kid's apple crusher topped with allspice (I laughed hysterically at that one), 4.) peanut butter, chocolate syrup and cinnamon, and 5.) apricot preserves with sliced apple. They were so good but I could have eaten another handful of #4 s!
And here are five things I'll admit to you on this holiday weekend:
Tell me what you did with your weekend? Was grilling involved?
Have you ever thought of trying a completely new career path like I tried with baking? What was it?
